Follow in the Footsteps of our Ancestors

The tour leads us through the wine lands of Stellenbosch to the northern end of False Bay where we follow the dramatic coastline along Clarence drive.

After reaching Betty's Bay, we visit one of only two main land colonies of the endangered African Penguin. Great photographic opportunities!

In Hermanus, on the Walker Bay coast, we take a short walk in the Fernkloof Nature reserve to familiarise ourselves with the fynbos vegetation and the role it played in the daily lives of the early inhabitants of the Cape.

After travelling inland and passing the historical town of Stanford we enjoy lunch in the vicinity of De Kelders with stunning views over Walker Bay, a great place to spot Southern Right Whales.

A short drive takes us to Klipgat archaeological cave where modern man used to live as early as 60 000 years ago. Learn more about how these early humans used the coastline and local surroundings in order to obtain food, shelter and medicine.

We finally return to Stellenbosch via the N2, retracing the old wagon route used by the early European settlers.
